Botafogo Shakes Up the Market with Four New Additions for 2026

Botafogo, one of Brazilian football’s most traditional clubs, has taken a significant step to strengthen its squad for the challenges of the 2026 season. This Monday (20), the Rio de Janeiro-based club officially announced the arrival of four new players, demonstrating ambition in both the Brazilian Serie A and the Copa Sudamericana, where the team is still alive in the knockout stage.

Paulinho: Experience Arrives for the Left Back Position

The first to be introduced was the experienced left-back Paulinho, 31 years old. With a contract signed until 2028, the player arrives with a wealth of experience, coming from a contract termination with Denmark’s FC Midtjylland, a club he represented for seven seasons. Developed at Santo André, Paulinho has played for Bahia, Boa Esporte, and Santos’ U-23 team, adding versatility and knowledge to the team’s defensive sector.

Gabriel Batista and Warleson: Goalkeepers Bolster Security

In a strategic move for the goal, Botafogo brought in two new goalkeepers. Gabriel Batista, 28, signed with the club until the end of 2029. With training in Flamengo‘s youth academy, Gabriel boasts important titles in his resume such as the 2019 Libertadores and two Brazilian Serie A titles (2019 and 2020). After loan spells and playing for Santa Clara in Portugal, he now returns to Brazilian football.

Joining him in goal is Warleson, 29. The goalkeeper, who was at Cercle Brugge, signed a contract until 2029. Developed in Athletico-PR‘s youth academy, Warleson spent the last seven seasons playing in Belgian football, bringing an international perspective to the position.

Lucas Monzón: Uruguayan Youth and Grit for the Defense

Completing the quartet of reinforcements, Botafogo announced the signing of defender Lucas Monzón, 24. The Uruguayan defender agreed to a contract with the club until the end of 2029. Monzón was playing for Junior de Barranquilla in Colombia, and his arrival promises to bring youth, physical presence, and the typical grit of South American football to Botafogo’s defensive system.

The arrival of these four players reinforces Botafogo‘s intention to compete for all objectives in the 2026 season. With a more qualified and diverse squad, the club demonstrates its strength in the transfer market and its desire to achieve new glories. Botafogo fans now eagerly await to see the quartet in action, propelling the team in pursuit of titles.
