Brazilian soccer will have a mandatory break in 2027. The CBF has confirmed the interruption of all national competitions from June 24 to July 25 for the Women’s World Cup to be held in Brazil.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) formalized an unprecedented measure for the national sports calendar to the clubs last Tuesday (04). In official letters sent to the teams, the entity detailed that there will be a compulsory halt to all football competitions during the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

This interruption, which will affect both men’s and women’s soccer, will occur between June 24 and July 25, 2027. The decision aims to reconcile the national calendar with the biggest women’s football event on the planet, which will have Brazil as its host country for the first time in history.

Calendar Adapted for the Women’s World Cup

The break in CBF competitions is scheduled to last just over a month, covering the exact period when the Women’s World Cup will be held. The measure aims to ensure the full functioning and necessary infrastructure for the international tournament, directly impacting the planning of Brazilian clubs.

Brazil to Host the Biggest Women’s Football Event Ever

Brazil is preparing to host the Women’s World Cup, an event that will bring together 32 national teams and a total of 64 matches. Eight cities have been confirmed as host locations: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Recife, Fortaleza, Salvador, Brasília, and Porto Alegre, chosen after a rigorous selection process by FIFA.

Arenas Essential for the International Competition

The main reason for the halt in men’s soccer is the use of a large portion of the stadiums owned by clubs in the Brazilian Championship’s Serie A. FIFA protocol requires these arenas to be handed over in advance for operational adjustments and event organization, making it impossible to hold national games during this period. The CBF, therefore, opted to reserve the calendar space to avoid conflicts.

Awaiting the Detailed 2027 Calendar

Although the clubs have already been informed about the interruption, the CBF is still working on preparing the full calendar for the 2027 season. The expectation is that the entity will later release details on how the national competitions will be distributed, organizing the phases before and after the break.

Record Attendance Expected and Great Interest

FIFA projects record attendance for the Brazilian edition of the Women’s World Cup. According to Thiago Jannuzzi, the competition’s director of operations, the goal is to surpass the mark of two million fans in stadiums, exceeding the performance of the 2023 World Cup. Ticket demand is already high, with over 730,000 registrations for purchases, demonstrating significant global interest.

Challenges for Clubs with Host Stadiums

The local impact of this interruption is already generating discussions, especially among major clubs. The M360 Team highlighted the case of Flamengo, which is engaged in complex dialogue with FIFA.

Flamengo has been in ‘disputes’ with FIFA for several weeks over the World Cup. To care for the pitch, the entity wants the Maracanã to close in May next year. This means Mengão would have decisive matches in the first phase of the Libertadores and important rounds of the Brasileirão without the Maracanã. Discussions are ongoing.”

The CBF‘s decision to halt Brazilian football in 2027 underscores the country’s commitment to hosting the Women’s World Cup with excellence. The measure, while presenting logistical challenges for the entity and the clubs, ensures that Brazil can provide the necessary infrastructure for a global event. Expectations now turn to the release of the full calendar and the ability to surpass the attendance records projected by FIFA, solidifying the legacy of the Women’s World Cup in the country.
