Global Recognition at Gávea

The Guinness World Records certification was formalized in a ceremony at Gávea, Flamengo’s headquarters. Eternal idol Zico, an emblematic figure of the club, was responsible for receiving the official plaque from the organization on behalf of the Rubro-Negro. The event marked the culmination of an objective that surpassed expectations, with over 100,000 registered votes validating the world record.

‘Urubu de Lima’: The Winning Jersey

The ‘Manto da Nação’ project culminated with the selection of the ‘Urubu de Lima’ jersey, designed by Marcelo Gluz. The concept of the piece is a vibrant tribute, inspired by the mysterious Nazca geoglyphs in Peru. The creation establishes a cultural bridge between the Andean country and Flamengo’s glorious chapters, especially the Copa Libertadores conquests of 2019 and the aspirations for 2025, both with finals played in Lima.

From Creation to Popular Vote

Launched in July, ‘Manto da Nação’ invited fans from all over Brazil to submit their designs. The campaign attracted an impressive number of participants, with over 8,000 drawings submitted. After careful selection, ten finalist proposals were chosen, paving the way for the crucial public vote. ‘Urubu de Lima’ emerged as the favorite, and its creator, Marcelo Gluz, was awarded R$ 10,000.

Sales Success and Fan Engagement

The enthusiasm surrounding the ‘Urubu de Lima’ was not limited to the voting. The new jersey, released in two versions, recorded significant sales, surpassing 50,000 units sold in just a few days. This volume of orders, coming from all regions of the country, quickly made the product a sought-after item, with limited units remaining. Mengão, to celebrate the achievement, maintained a special promotion, offering a discount for purchasing multiple jerseys and free months of the ‘Nação Sócio-Torcedor’ plan.

The Creator’s Voice

The impact of creating such a significant symbol was highlighted by the winning designer.

“After so many years working with design, being able to create a jersey for the Nation is, without a doubt, one of the most special moments of my career. It’s much more than developing a product or working with a brand. It’s about passion, identity, something that is part of the lives of millions of people, including mine,” declared Marcelo Gluz.

International Repercussion

The reach of the ‘Manto da Nação’ project extended beyond Brazil’s borders, receiving direct recognition from the Government of Peru. Peruvian authorities expressed their gratitude and admiration for the tribute to their culture. Through the Ministry of Culture, the Peruvian government highlighted the connection between the ‘Urubu de Lima’ jersey and the World Heritage site of the Nazca Lines.

“Peru and its culture are fundamental! We highlight the launch of Flamengo’s ‘Urubu de Lima’ jersey from Brazil, with a design that pays homage to the Nazca Lines, a World Heritage site. Our historical legacy unites cultures through sport!”, published the Government of Peru.

The message was accompanied by the sharing of a post from Flamengo itself, celebrating the jersey and the phrase: “An agreement sealed: ALL FINALS IN LIMA WILL BE RUBRO-NEGRO! Discover all the details of a historic MantoDaNação.”

The achievement of the Guinness World Record by ‘Manto da Nação’ is not just a milestone for Flamengo, but a symbol of the strength of its fanbase and the ability of football to transcend the sport, creating deep cultural and emotional bonds. The ‘Urubu de Lima’ jersey, now globally recognized, represents the Rubro-Negro passion and a legacy that unites history, art, and the fervor of millions of hearts. This feat solidifies Flamengo’s position as an innovative and truly global club.
