The STJD has handed down severe penalties following the 508th Ba-Vi derby. Vitória defender Cacá received a two-match ban, while Marinho was given a warning.
The Superior Court of Sports Justice (STJD) announced its rulings this Thursday regarding the altercation that took place during last Sunday’s derby between Vitória and Bahia. The outcome of the trial brings immediate consequences for the Rubro-Negro squad in the ongoing Brazilian Serie A.
Defender Cacá faced the harshest penalty, receiving a two-game suspension. The punishment followed his attempt to rip the jersey of Bahia midfielder Jean Lucas during the celebration of the Tricolor’s goal. The club is already exploring options to appeal and request a stay of execution to ensure the player remains available for selection.
Rulings and Acquittals
During the same hearing, Vitória forward Marinho was also reviewed by the disciplinary committee. He was initially given a one-match suspension, which was converted into a warning after tribunal review. Meanwhile, Jean Lucas, who was at the center of the episode for lifting his shirt toward the opposing fans, was acquitted of charges regarding provoking the public.
Esporte Clube Bahia was also on the agenda. While the club was acquitted of one charge of non-compliance with regulations, it was ordered to pay a 2,000 BRL fine for delaying the start of the match.
Impact on the Brazilian Serie A
Cacá‘s suspension is a major concern for the Vitória coaching staff. With this ruling, the defender is confirmed to miss the upcoming Brazilian Serie A matches against Atlético-MG and Grêmio. The club’s management hopes to overturn the decision in sports court before the games take place.
The episode has reignited the debate over the limits of goal celebrations. While Marinho labeled his rival’s actions as:
A lack of respect.
Jean Lucas defended himself, stating:
Football is becoming boring.
He added that goal celebrations are part of the game’s essence. The tension between the teams is expected to continue stirring up conversation behind the scenes following the derby.
