Fullback Rodinei joins Santos on a contract through 2027, returning to Brazil after a stint in Europe.
Santos Futebol Clube confirmed on Wednesday (02) the arrival of their highly anticipated reinforcement for the right-back position: Rodinei. The player, who has a well-established career with successful spells in both Brazilian and European football, has signed a contract with the São Paulo club through the end of 2027.
The news was widely celebrated on the club’s social media channels, highlighting the athlete’s successful career trajectory.
Return to Brazil and Reunion of Former Teammates
Rodinei had been playing for Olympiacos in Greece since the beginning of 2023. Negotiations for his return to Brazil were swift, allowing the fullback to be immediately available to the coaching staff to compete for a spot in the starting lineup.
At Santos, he will reunite with familiar faces from his time at Flamengo: striker Gabigol and midfielder William Arão, who are already part of the Santos squad.
Successful Stint at Flamengo
Between 2016 and 2022, Rodinei wore the Flamengo jersey, becoming a key piece in several trophy-winning campaigns. Despite a loan spell at Internacional, his time at the Gávea was marked by significant titles.
The fullback’s resume includes two Copa Libertadores titles, one Brazilian Serie A championship, one Copa do Brasil, and two Campeonato Carioca titles. In total, he made 223 appearances, recording 9 goals and 18 assists.
Decisive Moments
The fullback remains etched in Flamengo fans’ memories for his participation in crucial moments. In 2022, he scored the winning penalty that secured the Copa do Brasil title against Corinthians at the Maracanã.
That same year, in the Copa Libertadores final against Athletico-PR in Ecuador, Rodinei was involved in the play that led to Gabigol‘s goal, sealing the third continental championship for the Rio-based club.
Flamengo’s Current Context
While Santos celebrates the new signing, Flamengo is focused on their upcoming challenges. This Wednesday (02), the team led by Tite faces Mirassol at 7:30 PM (Brasilia Time) at the Maracanã.
The match is part of the Brazilian Serie A and will be broadcast exclusively on Premiere.
