“Every implementation of technological innovation to support officiating and football is fundamental. Regarding the offside line technology, it is important to say that it brings more credibility to officiating decisions. The introduction of such a complex system requires more than just high-performance equipment; it demands rigorous preparation of the officiating staff. According to Ricci, the training process for professionals operating the VAR has been intensified to ensure the technology works in harmony with human judgment. The executive highlights that Brazilian football is now familiarizing itself with a process that is already well-established globally.
“The process in Brazil is very transparent. Just as we started to get used to it from international competitions, we can now get used to it by watching the Brazilian Championship.”
The debut schedule
The 20th round of the tournament marks a watershed moment in the history of national officiating. The first matches to receive support from the new technology will take place this Saturday, featuring the duels between Athletico-PR and Internacional, as well as Santos and Chapecoense, both scheduled for 6:30 PM. Fans in Minas Gerais will have their first experience with the tool on Sunday, at the iconic Mineirão stadium, during the match between Cruzeiro and Botafogo.
The expectation is that the technology will minimize long interruptions during the analysis of close offside calls.
