The latest news, released this Wednesday, indicates that the São Paulo State Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP-SP) has officially supported the release of 4,000 seats for Fluminense fans. This decision contradicts the initial position held by the Military Police, adding both complexity and urgency to the preparations for the match that will determine one of the tournament’s finalists.
Public Prosecutor’s Recommendation
The MP-SP, through prosecutors Roberto Bacal and Daniela Hashimoto of the Central Special Criminal Court, has issued a formal recommendation for Palmeiras to make 4,000 tickets available to the visiting fans. The agency’s justification is based on the assessment that there is no “significant history of off-field rivalry between the organized fan groups” of the clubs, minimizing the risk of conflict and noting that the stadium’s usual visitor capacity of 2,000 is insufficient according to CONMEBOL requirements. The South American governing body’s regulations for Libertadores semifinals are clear: the host stadium must provide at least 4,000 tickets for the away section.
The Military Police and Palmeiras Challenge
Despite the MP-SP recommendation, the path forward for Palmeiras still presents significant obstacles. The São Paulo State Military Police (PMESP) had previously responded to the club’s request with a “to-do list” of requirements that must be met to expand the visitor section. Parallel to the Allianz Parque situation, Palmeiras has also requested that CONMEBOL and Fluminense ensure the Rio-based club reserves 10% of the Maracanã capacity for Alviverde fans during the first leg. Palmeiras’ position is that a mutual agreement based on common sense would benefit both sides, especially considering the larger capacity of the Rio stadium.
