After a 1-1 draw against Flamengo in the Brazilian Serie A, Internacional’s head coach, Paulo Pezzolano, explains the strategy adopted and expresses his frustration about the team’s performance on the field.

Flamengo failed to overcome Internacional last Wednesday (29), in a match valid for the 21st round of the Brazilian Serie A. The 1-1 final score was marked by a performance that, once again, left the *Rubro-Negra* fanbase dissatisfied with the team’s display under coach Leonardo Jardim.

On the other hand, *Colorado* coach Paulo Pezzolano adopted a realistic tone when analyzing his squad’s approach during the 90 minutes. The coach emphasized that the tactical choice to play with a low block is not a constant in his philosophy, but rather a specific adjustment for certain matchups.

Strategy and Reflection on the Result

In an interview after the final whistle, Pezzolano defended Internacional’s varied approaches. According to him, the *Gaúcho* club needs to be able to press opponents in different scenarios.

There are times when we have to press. But not every game allows us to stay in a low block. There will be opponents against whom we cannot play in a low block like that.

The coach did not hide his frustration with the score, especially feeling that Inter was close to victory.

You all are killing me, and I’m killing myself, because Inter doesn’t deserve this either. So I have to see what I’m going to do. Sometimes it will work out, sometimes it won’t.

The coach expressed his thoughts on the constant need for self-criticism in his coaching role.

Match Summary and Table Impact

Internacional took the lead in the 27th minute of the first half, with a goal from Vitinho. Flamengo, facing evident creative difficulties, only managed to equalize in the 34th minute of the second half, when Samuel Lino capitalized on a loose ball in the opponent’s box after a scramble.

With this result, Flamengo reaches 39 points, maintaining its second position in the Brazilian Serie A table. Meanwhile, Internacional, with 22 points, remains in 16th place, in a delicate situation battling against relegation.

The Rubro-Negro will now have a ten-day period for adjustments, returning to the field only on August 9, when they face Vitória at the Maracanã.
