Forward Carlinhos, on loan from Flamengo to Athletic, finally broke his goalscoring taboo by finding the net in the victory against América-MG in Serie B.
Forward Carlinhos ended a long dry spell in football. On loan from Flamengo, the center forward was one of the standout players in Athletic‘s 3-1 victory over América-MG, in a match valid for the 22nd round of the Série B of the Brazilian Championship. The game, held at the Independência Stadium, marked the player’s first goal for the club from São João del Rei.
The mark is significant, as the 29-year-old athlete had not celebrated a goal since February 22, when he was still wearing Remo‘s colors in a match against Cametá, for the Campeonato Paraense. With this result, the number 9 shirt eases the pressure and seeks to regain the necessary confidence for the rest of the season.
Decisive participation at Independência
In addition to closing the scoring for the Minas Gerais team, Carlinhos played a fundamental role in another goal for the team. After a precise cross from Zeca, the forward pressured the opposing defense, forcing defender Luca Sosa to score an own goal. According to Equipe M360, the player has shown adaptability to Alex de Souza‘s tactical scheme.
The performance in the match reinforces the importance of minutes on the field for the athlete, who seeks to rediscover the good form that put him on the national radar during his stint at Nova Iguaçu in 2024.
Trajectory and search for rhythm
The player arrived at Athletic in July, after Flamengo arranged the loan to offer the forward more playing time and help him regain match fitness. A product of Corinthians‘ youth system, Carlinhos built a career marked by stints at several Brazilian clubs.
Before reaching higher-profile football, the center forward played for teams such as Nova Iguaçu, Oeste, Novorizontino, Vila Nova-GO, Marcílio Dias, São Caetano, Santo André, and Audax-RJ.
Carlinhos gained national prominence in 2024 when he had a great performance for Nova Iguaçu in the Campeonato Carioca. He scored nine goals in 14 matches and helped the club reach the state championship final.
Therefore, his performance caught the attention of Flamengo, who signed the center forward. However, at the club, Carlinhos played 20 matches and scored only five goals. Subsequently, the forward was loaned to Vitória.
In 2025, he scored four goals in 23 games for the Bahia team. In 2026, he moved to Remo, where he played only six times, all in the Campeonato Paraense. Carlinhos‘ contract is valid until December of this year with Flamengo.
With the victory over América-MG, Athletic reached 34 points and occupies the eighth position in Série B. Now, the team coached by Alex de Souza turns its attention to the next commitment.
On Thursday (20), Athletic will host CRB at 7:30 PM (Brasília time) at the Joaquim Portugal Stadium in São João del Rei. Thus, Carlinhos will have another opportunity to gain confidence and help the Minas Gerais club in the remainder of the competition.
