Nacional-AM has secured an unprecedented promotion to Serie C after two decades, placing the state of Amazonas back with two representatives in the national third division in 2027.
Amazonas state football is experiencing a moment of reaffirmation on the national stage.
With a 0-0 draw against CSA at the Rei Pelé stadium in Maceió last Thursday (3), Nacional-AM confirmed its spot in the 2027 Brazilian ChampionshipSerie C.
The feat by Leão da Vila Municipal ends a four-year hiatus without the state having two clubs simultaneously in the competition, as Amazonas FC also confirmed its stay in the tournament for the next season.
Nacional-AM‘s journey is historic.
After being eliminated in the quarterfinals of Serie D by ABC, the club took advantage of a regulatory change – which expanded the number of promotions to six – to shine in the repechage.
Following a solid 3-1 victory at the Arena da Amazônia and securing qualification in Alagoas, the club crowns a golden season, which also included winning the Amazonense Championship, ending a ten-year state drought.
Review and Different Paths
The last time the state of Amazonas had two teams in Serie C was in 2023, but with opposite outcomes.
On that occasion, Amazonas FC experienced a fairytale, winning the competition title and earning promotion to Serie B.
Conversely, Manaus FC was not as fortunate and ended up suffering relegation to Serie D.
For the Amazonas fan, 2027 promises a new chapter.
Amazonas FC arrives with significant experience in the division, having been in Serie B and accumulated experience in national tournaments since its founding in 2019.
The club aims to once again resume its winning path and aim higher toward promotion to the second division.
Leão’s National Challenge
For Nacional-AM, the reality will be one of adaptation.
The return to Serie C after 20 years – their last participation was in 2007 – marks the club’s first national promotion in its history, which celebrated 113 years in 2026.
The team seeks to consolidate its resurgence and prove that its management project, which also yielded runner-up in the Copa Norte, is ready for the demands of the third division.
The presence of two clubs in the competition demonstrates the growing strength of football in the North region.
