CONMEBOL has officially announced the referee assignments for the decisive week of the Copa Libertadores, which will determine the quarterfinalists between August 18 and 20.
Anticipation for the Copa Libertadores Round of 16 second legs is building as kickoff approaches. In the interest of transparency and organization, South American football’s governing body has confirmed the officiating crews for these crucial matches.
One match has a different schedule: the clash between Tolima and Independiente del Valle has been rescheduled for August 25, due to the recent earthquake that affected Colombia. Brazilian veteran Wilton Pereira Sampaio will officiate that match.
Referee highlights for Brazilian teams
The high-stakes matchup at the Maracanã between Flamengo and Cruzeiro on Wednesday (19) will be officiated by Uruguayan Gustavo Tejera. He will be assisted by Nicolas Taran and Horacio Ferreiro, while Andrés Cunha will be in charge of VAR.
Argentine officiating for Palmeiras and other matches
On the same day, Palmeiras travels to Paraguay to face Cerro Porteño. For this clash, CONMEBOL has selected an all-Argentine crew, with Facundo Tello as the center referee, assisted by Juan Pablo Belatti and Gabriel Chade.
VAR duties will be handled by Héctor Paletta. Meanwhile, the match between Coquimbo Unido and Platense will be officiated by Peruvian referee Roberto Pérez.
Corinthians, Fluminense, and Mirassol
On Thursday (20), Corinthians hosts Rosario Central at Itaquera, with Venezuelan Alexis Herrera as the head referee. In Ecuador, the match between LDU and Mirassol will be officiated by Yael Falcón. Fluminense, on the other hand, faces Independiente Rivadavia on Tuesday (18) in Mendoza, a match that will be officiated by Colombian referee Andrés Rojas.
