Taking advantage of the FIFA break, Flamengo midfielder Jorginho returned to his home state of Santa Catarina for a charity event and an emotional reunion with his footballing roots.
The pause in the Brazilian football calendar, due to the FIFA international break, provided a moment of renewal for Jorginho. The Flamengo midfielder decided to use his time off to revisit his roots in Imbituba, on the coast of Santa Catarina, participating in a gathering that blended sports, solidarity, and nostalgia.
The event was held at the Vila Nova Football School, the very place that saw the athlete’s first steps before his rise to European football and his subsequent move to the Rubro-Negro. In addition to reuniting with childhood friends, the player made a point of sharing parts of his journey with his children, reinforcing the importance of staying connected to his personal history.
Connection to his origins
The festive atmosphere in the Santa Catarina city served as an important breather before the final stretch of the season. Jorginho did not hide his satisfaction in experiencing a normal day, far from the daily pressure of professional football.
Being able to return to where I was born and raised, receive all this affection, and see so many familiar faces and old friends I hadn’t seen in a long time is a great feeling. Being able to play ball with friends, just like when I was a kid, is very nostalgic. And being able to bring my children to see where I come from is also very important to me.
Solidarity and sports
Beyond the recreational aspect, the gathering had a significant social purpose. To attend the match, fans contributed by donating 1 kg of non-perishable food, which will be donated to Cáritas Brasileira. The friendly match featured officiating by Bráulio da Silva Machado, a fellow native of the state, who also supported the community action.
This leisure time also marks a turning point in the midfielder’s season. With 32 matches, three goals, and three assists in 2026, he is now preparing for the return of the Brazilian Serie A. Flamengo‘s focus shifts back entirely to the national competition, with the next match scheduled for October 8th against Santos, for the 29th round.
