Jordan Michael recalls his spectacular backheel goal against Corinthians and looks ahead to a decisive clash in the U-17 Brazilian Serie A after Flamengo secured their spot in the quarterfinals.
Flamengo‘s youth academy has once again proven its strength on the national stage by advancing to the knockout rounds of the U-17 Brazilian Serie A.
After clinching qualification with an important victory over América-MG last Wednesday (30) at Gávea, the Rubro-Negro team is now preparing for a high-stakes interstate classic in the quarterfinals of the tournament organized by the CBF.
Their opponent in the next round will be Corinthians, an old acquaintance from the group stage.
The rematch brings back positive memories for the Rio-based squad, especially for young forward Jordan Michael, who had a standout performance against the São Paulo club in the first half of the competition, scoring one of the goals in a 2-0 win.
The weight of the advantage and the inspiration behind the goal
During the opening phase of the championship, Flamengo overcame Corinthians with a solid display.
On that occasion, attacking midfielder Jordan Michael opened the scoring with a stylish backheel finish following a precise cross from Isaac Gomes—a moment that remains etched in the memories of both the player and the fans.
With stints in the youth ranks of New York City FC in the United States and Coimbra-MG, as well as catching the eye of coach Abel Ferreira during training sessions at Palmeiras, the 16-year-old arrived at Novo Ninho on loan for the 2026 season.
In addition to his backheel wonder goal, the player also found the net in the 7-0 thrashing of Atlético-GO.
The player stated:
I am very happy with the qualification. We worked hard to get here, and we know that from now on, every game is even more important. It was a very special goal, but now it is a new story. Corinthians is a strong opponent, and we will need to stay focused.
Next steps toward the title
Securing a spot among the top eight clubs in the country puts Flamengo on an electrifying path of knockout matches.
The two-legged format will require maturity from the group led by the Rubro-Negro coaching staff to contain the Alvinegro side.
The exact dates and times for the quarterfinal ties in the U-17 Brazilian Serie A will be announced shortly by the Brazilian football governing body.
Expectations behind the scenes are for balanced matchups, where the individual performance of rising stars like Jordan Michael could make the difference in the pursuit of the youth title.
