Internacional accumulates R$ 117 million in transfer debts and faces the risk of further FIFA sanctions.

Internacional is in a delicate financial situation regarding its transfer market dealings. Since 2021, the club has racked up a staggering R$ 117 million in debt from player transactions. Of this total, R$ 56 million is already overdue and requires immediate payment, while another R$ 61 million represents future commitments.

This alarming situation was detailed during a meeting of the club’s Deliberative Council, where it became clear that the outstanding payments involve not only domestic bodies like the National Chamber for Dispute Resolution (CNRD), but also football’s global governing body, FIFA. In addition, the club is dealing with civil and labor disputes that compound its transfer-related debts.

Deepening Debts and Future Litigation

The financial scenario for the ‘Colorado’ goes even further. Beyond transfer debts, Internacional projects another R$ 202 million in financial liabilities over the next two years. This projection deepens concerns regarding the club’s financial health in the medium and long term.

Additionally, the Porto Alegre-based club is at the center of five other ongoing legal cases. These lawsuits are related to the signings of players Juninho (currently at Midtjylland, Norway) and Ramon (at Olympiacos, Greece). The total amount involved in these cases combined is 6.4 million euros, which is equivalent to approximately R$ 38 million at current exchange rates. It is worth noting that the current management has already paid off R$ 300 million in costs for signings made prior to their mandate, which began before 2021.

Transfer Bans and the Urgent Need for Revenue

The severity of the situation is already reflected in sanctions imposed by FIFA. In September, Inter suffered its second transfer ban in less than a month. This punishment prevents the club from registering new players for three transfer windows, drastically limiting their options for squad reinforcements and sports planning.

Given this landscape, president Alessandro Barcellos communicated to council members and pre-candidates the urgent need to raise between R$ 60 million and R$ 70 million by the end of December. The primary goal is to honor the club’s financial commitments and avoid further penalties, seeking the stability necessary to continue operations and maintain competitiveness. The club’s ability to generate revenue and renegotiate its debts will be crucial to overcoming this critical moment.
