After failed international transfer negotiations, forward Gonzalo Plata rejoins Flamengo, and the club’s board decides to close the controversy to concentrate on the decisive Libertadores match.
Forward Gonzalo Plata is officially back in the day-to-day operations of Flamengo. The Ecuadorian player arrived in Belém (PA) early Monday morning (7th), after his negotiations with Dynamo Moscow fell through and a whirlwind trip to Dubai, where he sought new alternatives for his career’s future.
The player reported back for duty on Monday, joining the squad normally under the coaching staff’s guidance. Plata‘s return comes at a crucial moment in the Rubro-Negro’s season, as the team aims to maintain squad stability before the decisive challenges in the Libertadores.
End of backstage drama
According to information obtained by the M360 Team, Flamengo‘s board has decided not to impose any sanctions or fines on the forward until after the match against Independiente del Valle. The club understands that, as the player was in advanced negotiation stages, his absence was justified by the transfer context.
The possibility of a new offer for the player is considered a closed matter at Gávea.
This decision aims to shield the squad from potential external distractions. In recent days, tensions flared after the club’s management expressed dissatisfaction with the player’s and his agents’ conduct, who explored offers in the Middle East market without definitive approval from the Brazilian institution.
Full focus on upcoming challenges
Plata‘s return provides a temporary relief for the Rubro-Negro coach, especially given the intense schedule. Last weekend, Flamengo defeated Remo 1-0 at the Mangueirão, a result that, combined with the draw between Palmeiras and Botafogo, propelled the club to the sole leadership of the Brazilian Serie A.
Now, the focus shifts to the continental stage. The Rubro-Negro will travel to Ecuador to face Independiente del Valle this Wednesday (9th) at 9:30 PM (Brasília time). The match, part of the Libertadores quarterfinals, will be broadcast live on the premium plan of Disney+, marking the team’s first step toward qualifying for the next round.
