Former Flamengo defender Frickson Erazo reveals dramatic behind-the-scenes details of his arrival at the club in 2014, detailing the loneliness and adaptation challenges in Brazilian football.

Frickson Erazo‘s stint at Flamengo, though brief, was marked by challenges that extended beyond the field. In an exclusive interview with the M360 Team during coverage of the Copa Libertadores, the former Ecuadorian defender looked back on the period he wore the Sacred Jersey, revealing that he faced serious structural and support difficulties upon his arrival in Rio de Janeiro.

The player, nicknamed ‘El Elegante,’ explained that his transition to Brazil did not go as planned. Without the necessary support from the people who arranged his move to the country, the defender found himself isolated, having to find his own ways to get to training facilities and organize his personal life in the Marvelous City.

The burden of solitary adaptation

Erazo’s routine in the first few months was marked by isolation. The athlete detailed that the lack of basic infrastructure directly impacted his performance on the field, making the adaptation to the Rubro-Negro squad an extremely draining process.

Erazo opened up:

When I arrived, I didn’t arrive with my family, I arrived alone. The people who had brought me there had disappeared, and I had to manage on my own just to get to training. It wasn’t easy. It was a difficult time getting used to things, integrating. That influenced my training.

Legacy and overcoming adversity

Despite the adversities, Erazo maintains a positive outlook on his experience at Gávea. For him, his time at Flamengo served as a turning point in his professional career. The defender stated that the club acted as a true “university” of life, being fundamental for his maturation and psychological strengthening.

He added:

Whoever went to my apartment, I had nothing to show, so I’d take them to a restaurant, a shop… But today I thank God, because I became a fighter. Flamengo was my university. It was the perfect place for me to become psychologically strong.

Analysis of new talents

The conversation with the M360 Team also opened up the opportunity to discuss the club’s current landscape. Erazo praised the arrival of his compatriot, Anthony Valencia, highlighting the tactical intelligence and dynamism of the young Ecuadorian midfielder.

With notable stints at Grêmio and Atlético-MG in Brazil as well, Erazo left his mark on the Rubro-Negro’s history with the conquest of the Campeonato Carioca in 2014. His journey serves as an example of resilience, showing that initial difficulties, though arduous, were essential in consolidating his career in the competitive landscape of South American football.
