Flamengo vs. Cruzeiro breaks 2026 attendance record
The Maracanã stadium was the stage for a historic feat this Wednesday night (19). The second leg between Flamengo and Cruzeiro, valid for the Copa Libertadores Round of 16, saw an attendance of 72,481, marking the largest crowd in Brazilian football in 2026.
The number surpasses the previous record of 72,140 spectators, set during the Brazil national team’s farewell match against Panama, and also the previous club record of 71,205 people at the match between Flamengo and Palmeiras.
Record attendance and significant revenue
Of the total spectators, 68,510 were paid admissions, resulting in a gross revenue of R$ 8,117,578.50 for the Rio de Janeiro club.
The figure demonstrates the strength of the fanbase and the appeal of high-level competitions, such as the Libertadores, in drawing massive crowds to the stadiums.
Flamengo advances to the quarterfinals with victory over Cruzeiro
On the pitch, Flamengo confirmed their superiority and secured a spot in the quarterfinals. The 2-1 victory over Cruzeiro was fueled by goals from Arrascaeta and Samuel Lino. The team from Minas Gerais pulled one back through Lucas Romero.
