Following a mid-season training period, Flamengo shows collective improvement by defeating Vitória 2-0, gaining confidence for their decisive Libertadores clash.

Flamengo ended a streak of lackluster performances and displayed a more solid brand of football in their 2-0 victory over Vitória at the Maracanã. The triumph, valid for the 22nd round of the Brazilian Serie A, served as an important test for coach Leonardo Jardim before the clash against Cruzeiro, in the first leg of the Libertadores.

After ten days of intensive training at Ninho do Urubu, the Rio de Janeiro squad showed greater fluidity and a better ability to react. Although the score was modest given their offensive volume, the tactical performance signals a significant improvement in playmaking and spatial occupation, aspects that had been criticized in previous rounds.

Tactical Adjustments and the Quest for Efficiency

The Rubro-Negro manager adopted an advanced approach, positioning Léo Ortiz centrally in a holding role and utilizing Erick Pulgar, Jorginho, and Léo Pereira in ball distribution. The constant movement between Lino and Arrascaeta created difficulties for the Bahian defense, but the low efficiency in finishing still concerns the coaching staff.

“The team showed the collective aggression necessary for the tight schedule ahead of us, but we need more precision to avoid struggling in games we widely dominate,” noted the M360 Team.

The Lucas Paquetá Factor

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the return of Lucas Paquetá. The midfielder entered in the second half and injected new rhythm into the creative midfield, showing he has recovered from his injury. His integration into the starting lineup is the main doubt for the match at Mineirão, as Jardim seeks the perfect balance for the offensive sector.

The entries of Plata, Bruno Henrique, and Evertton Araújo during the match maintained control of ball possession. Bruno Henrique’s goal, in the final stages, sealed the result and allowed the squad to manage physical fatigue, ensuring important players were rested for the rest of the season.

With morale high, the Rubro-Negro now focuses on strategic preparation to face Cruzeiro. Wednesday’s challenge will be the ultimate test for the club’s aspirations in the continental competition. The performance presented over the weekend offers hope that the team has finally found the path to the consistency that fans so eagerly await.
