Flamengo will officially unveil its new signings this Friday (Sept 4): Ecuadorian Anthony Valencia and Argentine Joaquín Freitas, who will be presented to the press at the Ninho do Urubu training center.
The wait for the Rubro-Negro faithful is coming to an end. After making waves behind the scenes in this transfer window, Anthony Valencia and Joaquín Freitas will give their first press conference as Mais Querido players.
The event marks the official start of the duo’s journey at the club, which is banking on young talent to strengthen the squad renewal project led by head coach Leonardo Jardim.
Investment in new talent
Flamengo demonstrated its confidence in the players’ potential by signing long-term deals, valid through 2031.
Anthony Valencia, a 23-year-old forward, arrives from Royal Antwerp (BEL) in a deal worth 5 million euros (approximately R$ 30.08 million) and will wear the number 14 jersey.
Meanwhile, 19-year-old Argentine winger Joaquín Freitas was signed for 7 million euros (approximately R$ 42 million) and will take the number 30 shirt.
Debut expectations in the Brazilian Serie A
With their paperwork cleared by the CBF, both new signings are now eligible to play and are hoping to be included in the squad for the next match.
Flamengo faces Remo this Sunday (Sept 6) at 4:00 PM at Mangueirão, in a match valid for the 26th round of the Brazilian Serie A.
The coaching staff will evaluate the players’ physical condition over the coming days before confirming whether the duo will make their debut in the capital of Pará.
First contact with the ‘Nação’
The adaptation of Valencia and Freitas has already begun off the pitch.
Last Wednesday (Sept 2), both players were present at the Maracanã to watch Flamengo‘s 2-0 victory over Mirassol.
The moment was key for the new signings to feel the Rubro-Negro atmosphere and the support of the fans up close before even officially donning the Manto Sagrado.
