Flamengo has removed its main sponsor’s brand from its jerseys following the suspension of betting companies in the country, leading to visual changes at the Ninho do Urubu training ground.
Flamengo surprised fans by taking immediate action on its official kits during a training session held this Tuesday (06). With the recent ban on betting companies nationwide, the Rubro-Negro board chose to cover up the brand of Betano, the club’s main commercial partner, from the front of the training and match jerseys.
The decision strictly follows the government directive that halted operations in the sports betting sector in the country starting that morning. In addition to the jerseys, the company’s visual identity was promptly removed from advertising boards around the Rio de Janeiro club’s training facility.
The Future of the Partnership and Financial Impacts
Signed in the final stretch of last season for substantial figures around R$ 280 million annually, the partnership between Flamengo and Betano is going through a moment of reevaluation. Despite the adverse scenario imposed by regulations, the betting company’s executives expressed a desire to await legal developments before making any final decision regarding the termination of the sponsorship.
The company’s main idea is to continue monitoring this process, waiting for a definitive legal definition regarding the betting market in the country.
Given this commercial gap, the Flamengo board has ruled out an immediate search for a new replacement for the prime space on the jersey until the end of the current calendar. Meanwhile, other changes are taking place on the kit, such as the addition of Lubrax on the back area, replacing the former partner brand.
Upcoming Challenges on the Pitch
While the administrative background deals with the adjustments required by the sector and market regulations, the squad led by the coaching staff is focusing on the pitch. Taking advantage of the FIFA international break, the team fine-tuned tactical details ahead of crucial fixtures in this final stretch of the Brazilian Serie A season.
Flamengo‘s next fixture takes place this Thursday (08), when the team visits Santos at the Vila Belmiro stadium at 7:30 PM (Brasília time). The match is seen as crucial for the club’s ambitions in the standings, with live broadcast on Premiere and full coverage by the sports press.
