Rubro-Negro advantage and match overview
Flamengo built a very comfortable margin in the first leg of the round of 16, held at the Ninho do Urubu training center. Led by head coach Marcelo Salazar, the Rio de Janeiro team secured a 4-1 rout, with goals scored by Diego Queiroz, Diego Guimarães, Pablo Lúcio, and Rafael Henrique. This result allows the team to manage the aggregate score.
To secure qualification without scares, the Rubro-Negro can even afford to be defeated by a two-goal margin. The coaching staff emphasized the need to maintain focus and intensity, avoiding any overconfidence against an opponent that will try to press from the opening minutes in the south of the country.
The coaching staff stated:
Maintaining concentration and imposing our rhythm away from home will be fundamental to consolidating our spot in the next phase of the national competition.
The Santa Catarina mission and the future in the competition
On the other side, Criciúma knows the task is difficult, but not impossible. Needing a flawless performance at home, the hosts must win by four or more goals to advance directly. If the victory comes with a three-goal margin, the spot will be decided via penalty shootout.
Whoever emerges victorious from this knockout tie already knows they will face a tough road ahead. The next opponent in the quarterfinals will come from the clash between Náutico and Operário-PR. The Garotos do Ninho will try to punch their ticket to stay firm in the fight for the trophy, while the hosts seek a historic comeback in front of their fans.
