Josmar, a 17-year-old talent, gets an unprecedented opportunity on Flamengo’s squad list for the derby against Botafogo
Flamengo has announced its squad list for Sunday’s (30) derby against Botafogo, part of the 25th round of the Brazilian Serie A. The major highlight is the inclusion of Josmar, a 17-year-old forward, who makes the squad for the first time.
The match will take place at the Maracanã at 4 PM (Brasília time).
Opportunity for Josmar
Josmar’s call-up reflects absences in the Flamengo squad. Bruno Henrique’s suspension, coupled with the recent sales of Gonzalo Plata and Wallace Yan, has opened up a spot for the young striker.
Signed for R$ 3.5 million from Avaí last year, Josmar is seen by the board as one of the top youth prospects for the future. The left-footed forward, born in Recife, had already shown potential with the Santa Catarina club’s professional team.
Everton Cebolinha Returns
The squad list also features the return of Everton Cebolinha. The winger, who seemed out of favor due to a contract renewal stalemate, has been included. Like Josmar, the No. 11’s presence on the list is also driven by the gaps left by other players.
Conversely, Alex Sandro, Vitão, and De La Cruz remain in physical transition and will be out of the squad, with their return expected for the match against Mirassol.
Projections and Future
The expectation is that Josmar might get his first minutes in a derby. The young talent has the chance to show his worth in a high-profile match.
Everton Cebolinha’s presence also sparks debate, with some questions regarding the best strategy for youth players. The derby will be broadcast by TV Globo, Premiere, and GETV.
