Flamengo has announced a major tribute to Uruguayan midfielder Giorgian De Arrascaeta: a bust will be erected at the Gávea headquarters, joining the club’s gallery of legends, an honor previously reserved for the 1981 world champions. The tribute immortalizes the winning trajectory of the number 10, cementing his place as one of the pillars of the most successful era in the recent history of the Mais Querido.
The news, announced by president Luiz Eduardo Baptista last Sunday (26th) before the match against São Paulo at the Maracanã, echoed the gratitude and recognition of Arrascaeta’s legacy. The Uruguayan, who has won almost every possible title in the red-and-black jersey, including multiple Libertadores and Brazilian Serie A titles, expressed his emotion at being forever etched in the club’s history.
A Living Idol
The decision to honor Arrascaeta while he is still alive and playing for the club reinforces the player’s unique importance to Flamengo. The bust is expected to be unveiled on the club’s anniversary, November 15, 2026, a significant milestone to celebrate the bond between the athlete and the fans.
