Flamengo has detailed the technical data that supported the substitution of Gonzalo Plata for Anthony Valencia, focusing on higher physical intensity and stamina for the Rubro-Negro offensive system.

Flamengo‘s leadership has made official the behind-the-scenes details of its transfer market activity, revealing rigorous physical scouting monitoring to justify the roster change. The departure of Gonzalo Plata to Dynamo Moscow opened up a spot for the arrival of Anthony Valencia, a move based on the search for an athlete capable of maintaining a higher pace throughout the full 90 minutes.

Analysis by the M360 Team points out that the board prioritized aerobic endurance and high work rate. Following the physical performance dips observed in recent matches against Botafogo and Cruzeiro, the club’s physiology department sought a more dynamic profile to prevent excessive fatigue in the second half.

Comparative data between the Ecuadorian players

The figures revealed by Flamengo‘s intelligence sector show that Valencia has a more consistent engine. While Plata covered approximately 8,773 meters per match, Valencia boasts a higher figure, reaching 9,976 meters. The average pace also favors the new signing, at 166 meters per minute compared to 146 for the former wearer of the jersey.

Regarding explosive power, the difference becomes evident. Valencia performs, on average, 18.5 sprints per match, surpassing Plata‘s 12.7. Although Plata still has the edge in absolute peak speed, clocking in at 33.47 km/h, the coaching staff concluded that Valencia‘s volume of high-intensity actions will provide more tactical benefits to the team’s system.

The M360 Team noted:

The board’s strategy aims to replace isolated speed with a more tireless engine, seeking to reduce the team’s physical fatigue in the second half.

Financial impact and projections

The financial operation also brought relief to the club’s coffers. The sale of Plata for 12 million euros (approximately 72 million BRL) allowed for the signing of Valencia, formerly of Royal Antwerp, for 5 million euros (about 30 million BRL). The positive balance from the deal provides breathing room for the budgetary planning for the remainder of the season.

The focus now shifts to the athlete’s integration. Flamengo is evaluating Valencia‘s physical condition ahead of his official debut. Expectations are that the player will be included in the squad for the match against Mirassol, valid for the fourth round of the Brazilian Serie A, in a clash scheduled for next Wednesday (02) at the Maracanã.
