Flamengo handed Independiente del Valle a historic defeat in Quito, winning 2-0 and ending the opponent’s unbeaten home record in this Libertadores campaign.
In a display of efficiency and resilience, Flamengo secured a crucial away result this Thursday (10th). By defeating Independiente del Valle 2-0 on Ecuadorian soil, the Rubro-Negro not only paved their way to the Libertadores semifinals but also shattered the hosts’ dominance, who had boasted a 100% home record in the current edition of the tournament.
The match, the first leg of the quarterfinals, demanded the utmost from the Brazilian side. Facing the natural challenges of Quito’s 2,850-meter altitude, the Mais Querido managed to absorb the rivals’ initial momentum to build a comfortable lead, which now allows the club to manage their advantage in the return leg, in front of their home crowd.

The first half was a true test by fire for Flamengo’s defensive system. Independiente del Valle dictated the pace, registering ten shots on goal compared to none for the visiting team. The Ecuadorians’ suffocating strategy, which had already seen them beat opponents like Libertador and Rosario Central at home, seemed to be taking effect, but Flamengo’s goal remained intact until halftime.

Bruno Henrique opened the scoring in the 15th minute, while Léo Pereira extended the lead in the 29th, silencing the stadium in Quito and sealing the victory.
With a two-goal victory, the Mengão can lose by a single goal in the return leg, scheduled for next Thursday (17th), at 9:30 PM, at the Maracanã. The solid result provides the squad with the necessary peace of mind to also focus on the national calendar, which includes an important classic against Corinthians this Sunday (13th) in the Brazilian Serie A.
