Flamengo kicks off crucial preparations for the Copa Libertadores under head coach Leonardo Jardim, leads the Brazilian Serie A, and addresses goalkeeper Rossi‘s contract renewal.

The daily routine at Ninho do Urubu remains intense this Monday (19). Following a 3–0 victory over Bahia, the squad led by manager Leonardo Jardim has shifted its focus entirely to securing a spot in the Copa Libertadores final.

The week’s main challenge takes place next Thursday (22), when the Rio de Janeiro club hosts Estudiantes at the Maracanã. In the first leg of the semifinals, Rubro-Negro built a solid advantage and will now manage the scoreline to punch their ticket to the continental title match.

Returns and medical department updates

While the coaching staff fine-tunes the starting lineup, the medical department is closely monitoring the recovery of key players. Midfielder Arrascaeta and left-back Ayrton Lucas are undergoing daily evaluations to determine if they will be fit to play.

On the other hand, defensive midfielder Jorginho returns to the team after serving a suspension in the South American tournament. The midfielder’s presence brings fresh energy to the sector, which is still dealing with the temporary absence of other players undergoing physical treatment.

Consolidated lead in the Brazilian Serie A

On the domestic front, Flamengo sits at the top of the Brazilian Serie A table with 67 points after 31 rounds. The current campaign surpasses the performance recorded in the victorious 2025 season, driven by an impressive 72% success rate under the guidance of Leonardo Jardim.

Statistical studies by UFMG rank the Rio side as the primary favorite for the trophy, with nearly a 70% mathematical probability of lifting the cup. Their direct rival in the title race is Palmeiras, which sits right behind them in the standings.

Goalkeeper Rossi’s contract situation

Off the pitch, the hot topic of the week involves the future of goalkeeper Agustín Rossi. The Argentine shot-stopper denied rumors that talks to extend his contract had stalled, publicly reaffirming his affection and desire to remain in Rio de Janeiro.

I saw a report saying nothing has progressed, but you know… if journalists who weren’t there know more about what happens inside, then it’s up to the press to believe what they say. My desire has always been to stay.

With a contract valid until the end of 2027, the player maintains total focus on the decisive stretch of the season. The Rio club remains calm regarding the matter as the athlete prepares for another night of international action wearing the red-and-black jersey.
