Flamengo academy product and forward Werton is the newest signing for Aris Limassol in Cyprus, potentially boosting the Rubro-Negro’s coffers with a permanent transfer.
The European market is once again turning its attention to the youth academy of the Mais Querido. Aris Limassol has officially announced the arrival of Werton, a 22-year-old winger looking to make his mark on the international stage. The player, who was previously linked to Leixões in Portugal, has already joined the Cypriot squad during their mid-season period, preparing for his new challenges in local football.
The deal brings a significant financial boost to Gávea. Flamengo, which retained 30% of the player’s economic rights, is closely monitoring the contract’s progress. The agreement with the Cypriot club includes a mandatory purchase option, triggered if Werton plays 60% of the minutes in official matches, which would secure a new stream of revenue for the Brazilian club.
History and Expectations
The forward was originally sold to Leixões in 2024, in a deal valued at 1 million euros (approximately R$ 5.8 million). However, the journey was not without conflict: the Rubro-Negro had to involve FIFA after identifying payment delays regarding the transfer installments. On Portuguese soil, the player gained prominence, participating in 66 matches, scoring ten goals, and establishing himself as one of the top dribblers in the local league.
“Werton is another academy talent who didn’t get enough playing time due to the star-studded squad at the club,” evaluates journalist João Vítor Reis.
Legacy at the Rubro-Negro
Developed at the Ninho do Urubu, Werton had his first experience with the professional team back in 2021. Despite limited playing time—totaling 12 appearances and one goal—the player was always viewed as a promising prospect. Now, away from the pressure of the fans at the Maracanã, he seeks to gain the necessary maturity in Cyprus.
For the fans, Werton’s success abroad is viewed with optimism, not only out of support for the player but also with the hope that the remaining percentage will bring new dividends to Flamengo. The club remains attentive to the developments, maintaining its policy of profiting from the development of its gems in secondary European markets.
