Filipe Luís’s first official win as Monaco’s manager comes in the Conference League against Górnik Zabrze.
Manager Filipe Luís, a beloved figure at Flamengo, has achieved his first official victory in charge of Monaco (FRA). The milestone occurred this Thursday (20), in a match for the Conference League playoffs, where the French team defeated Górnik Zabrze (POL) with a score of 3-2.
Monaco’s goals were scored by Mika Biereth, Lamine Camara, and Paris Brunner, while Erik Prekop and Sondre Liseth netted for the Polish side.
The triumph was secured away from home in the first leg of the playoff round, giving Monaco a significant advantage for the return match, which will be played on their home turf. This victory also comes at a time of transition for the Monegasque club, which recently terminated the contract of star player Paul Pogba.
Pogba‘s departure from Monaco, announced last Monday (17), was due to the player’s physical issues, which had been ongoing since his return to the field after a doping suspension. The midfielder, a World Cup winner in 2018, had expectations of playing under Filipe Luís, but the mutually agreed termination prevented this possibility.
Filipe Luís‘s next challenge as Monaco’s manager will be this Sunday (23), when the team faces Le Havre AC in the opening round of the French Championship.
Filipe Luís‘s coaching career has been marked by success. During his tenure at Flamengo, the former defender won the Copa do Brasil in 2024 and, in 2025, lifted the trophies for the Campeonato Carioca, Brazilian Serie A, Supercopa do Brasil, and Copa Libertadores. Despite his winning record, the manager ended his contract with the Rio de Janeiro club in March.
The outlook for Monaco’s future under Filipe Luís is optimistic. As reported by João Vítor of Coluna do Fla, the team is in good hands, with hopes of a future return for the manager to Flamengo.
