Dynamo Moscow has officially confirmed the withdrawal from the signings of Gonzalo Plata, from Flamengo, and Matheus Martins, from Botafogo, following issues detected in medical examinations conducted in Russia.
An international transfer that would have injected millions of euros into Brazilian football’s coffers has taken an unexpected turn. On Tuesday (1st), Dynamo Moscow issued an official statement announcing the cancellation of negotiations for forwards Gonzalo Plata and Matheus Martins.
The players, who were already in Russia to finalize the last contractual procedures, did not pass the routine clinical tests.
Despite the European club’s official statement, the situation has caused discomfort among the parties involved. Flamengo promptly responded, contesting the diagnosis presented by the Russian club and reaffirming that the Ecuadorian player Gonzalo Plata is in full physical condition to perform at a high level, with no impediments for professional sports practice.
Financial Impact and the Players’ Future
The failed transaction anticipated a significant financial boost for the Rio de Janeiro clubs. For Plata‘s deal, the amount would have reached 12 million euros, while Matheus Martins‘ departure would have brought Botafogo around 8 million euros, considering bonuses and contractual targets.
With the termination of the talks, both players will now begin the process of returning to Brazil.
The decision was based on the institution’s long-term interests, prioritizing the squad’s physical safety and integrity for the upcoming challenges of the season.
The Russian club’s statement highlighted the reasons for the withdrawal.
Season Ahead for the Teams
For the Brazilian clubs, this news brings logistical and strategic ramifications. Both Flamengo and Botafogo now need to reintegrate the players into their respective squads.
The expectation is that, after undergoing a new battery of medical evaluations and internal procedures, the duo will be available to the coaching staff for the remainder of the championships, according to reporting from the Equipe M360.
The unexpected return of the players not only alters financial planning but also tactical options for the upcoming rounds. With this door in the European market closed, the clubs’ focus shifts entirely to the goals established internally within the national football calendar.
