“Seeing Flamengo with two Independiente players on the biggest team in the Americas fills us with pride. He was always a restless kid, never satisfied. I remember when he was very young, he was already training with the first team, for example. And there was a more experienced player who used to intimidate him. Until one day he stood up for himself and challenged him to a fight. A kid like an Independiente vs. Flamengo (laughs). But that earned him a lot of credibility, a lot of respect, and it never happened again.”
Overcoming Challenges and Focus on the Field
Beyond his temperament, Morales made a point of praising the family support that accompanied the player. For the executive, his mother’s strength was fundamental in helping Plata maintain focus, despite the natural challenges that come with fame and the pressure of playing in major cities like Rio de Janeiro.
“Gonzalito has an extraordinary mother who fought for him alone and was very strong by his side. Of course, the atmosphere in Rio, the fame, is difficult, and you have to know how to deal with it. I will never justify that about Gonzalito, but on the field, he gets the job done. He had a great World Cup because of his commitment and the way he played. In his youth, he was also always restless, but a good kid, a kind and good person.”

Gonzalo Plata‘s situation at Flamengo is experiencing a turnaround. Following a failed negotiation with Dynamo Moscow, which had offered 12 million euros, the athlete returned to Leonardo Jardim‘s plans.
