Cristiano Ronaldo breaks his silence and details the behind-the-scenes of his departure from the Portugal squad, revealing conflicts with Jorge Jesus and reaffirming his commitment to continue competing for his country.
Star player Cristiano Ronaldo took to his social media on Tuesday (6) to provide his version of the controversial exit from the Portugal national team training camp. The episode, which occurred during the last FIFA international window, cast doubt on the relationship between the captain and head coach Jorge Jesus, sparking intense speculation regarding a potential retirement for the superstar.
The player detailed a series of misunderstandings and unfulfilled promises by the coaching staff. According to the athlete, the usage plan established for him was unilaterally altered by the coach, culminating in the friction that led to his definitive departure from the national team’s camp before the match against Denmark.
Broken agreement and bench frustration
According to the forward’s account, Jorge Jesus had set a clear physical management schedule, but deviated from the agreement on the day of the match against Norway. The coach requested that the player prepare to play for 30 minutes, a request the captain promptly accepted, despite it not being in the initial plan.
After warming up for the entire second half, the forward was not brought on, which caused significant internal tension. The player claims that a subsequent meeting, mediated by Simão Coutinho, director at Al Nassr, was supposed to settle the peace, but the coach’s stance during the following press conference was considered disrespectful and contradictory to what had been agreed upon by both parties.
“From that moment on, my staying would only have harmed the group, so I did what I always said I would do if I didn’t feel useful: I packed my bags and left.”
Consequences and future with the national team
While taking responsibility for his departure, Cristiano Ronaldo acknowledged that his conduct warrants disciplinary action. The player stated that he is open to accepting any punishment imposed by the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), emphasizing that, as captain, his behavior should be exemplary, even when faced with the failures of others.
The forward also took the opportunity to dismiss immediate rumors of retirement. Although he plans to have farewell matches in the future, he emphasized that his top priority remains high-level competition. With his focus shifted to rehabilitating his image and returning to the pitch, the captain made himself available to wear the “Quinas” jersey again, provided there is transparency in his relationship with the coaching staff.
