The Copa do Brasil kicked off its Round of 16 this Saturday (01), and fans were surprised by a round marked by parity. Three matches ended in 0-0 draws, on a day when Flamengo took advantage of the rest before their next fixtures.
Scoreless Draws Mark the Start of the Round of 16
Saturday’s (01) matchups defined the initial scenario of the competition’s new phase:
- Vasco 0 vs. 0 Fluminense – Maracanã
- Atlético-MG 0 vs. 0 Juventude – Arena MRV
- Santos 0 vs. 0 Remo – Vila Belmiro
At Maracanã, the Rio derby between Vasco and Fluminense remained scoreless. The match was marked by an excess of errors and a lack of creativity from both sides, leaving the decision for the return leg.
At Arena MRV, Atlético-MG also couldn’t overcome Juventude‘s defense, drawing 0-0. Although the Gaúcho side hit the post, the score remained unchanged.
In Santos, the match between the Vila Belmiro team and Remo followed the same pattern. Gabigol even scored for Santos, but the goal was disallowed after VAR indicated the ball went out of bounds on Neymar‘s cross. Thus, Saturday’s three duels were postponed for the return legs.

The Copa do Brasil Round of 16 continues this Sunday (02), with four more matches: Palmeiras vs. Fortaleza, Mirassol vs. Grêmio, Chapecoense vs. Cruzeiro, and Internacional vs. Corinthians. Athletico-PR and Vitória will conclude the round on Monday (03).
Meanwhile, Flamengo, whose participation in the competition ended in the fifth round after a loss to Vitória, is preparing for the next challenge. The Mengão returns to the field on August 9, against Vitória, in a match valid for the 22nd round of the Brazilian Serie A, at Maracanã. The broadcast will be on Premiere.
