The stellar performance by Léo Pereira and Bruno Henrique, goalscorers who secured Flamengo‘s victory over Independiente del Valle in the Libertadores, earned the two star players a prominent spot in the team of the round released by Conmebol. The Flamengo duo was fundamental to the triumph that keeps the club alive in the pursuit of the continental title.

The four Brazilian clubs that advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition – Flamengo, Fluminense, Corinthians, and Palmeiras – were the biggest highlights in the list of the eleven best players of the week, with ten representatives in total. In Mengão‘s case, the presence of Léo Pereira and Bruno Henrique reflects the importance of their contributions on the field.

Brazilian Standouts in the Libertadores

The first round of the Libertadores quarterfinals was marked by the strength of Brazilian clubs, which achieved positive results in their respective matchups. Corinthians, after drawing away against Estudiantes, saw goalkeeper Hugo Souza, midfielder Garro, and forward Kaio César recognized.

Palmeiras, with a narrow victory over LDU, had the goalscorer, defender Giay, and midfielder Arias included in the selection. Fluminense, in turn, was represented by Thiago Silva, Nonato, and Hulk, protagonists in the win against Platense.

Flamengo’s duel against Independiente del Valle, played at high altitude in Quito, was a display of resilience. After an unfavorable first half, the Rio de Janeiro team fought back for a comeback in the second. Bruno Henrique opened the scoring in the 15th minute, capitalizing on an intricate play.

Later, in the 29th minute, a cross from Emerson Royal found Léo Pereira, who sealed the final score, securing a crucial result for Fla.

Upcoming Challenges

The determination of the Copa Libertadores semifinalists will occur next week with the return legs. On Tuesday (15), Fluminense faces Platense in Argentina.

On Wednesday (16), we will have the matches between LDU vs. Palmeiras and Corinthians vs. Estudiantes. Rounding out the schedule, on Thursday (17), Flamengo hosts Independiente del Valle at the Maracanã, looking to confirm their qualification.
