Chapecoense and Bahia Play Out Thrilling Six-Goal Draw in Brazilian Serie A.
Brazilian football delivered a spectacle of goals and comebacks this Sunday (16). At Arena Condá in Chapecó, Chapecoense and Bahia played out a thrilling 3-3 draw in a match valid for the 23rd round of the Brazilian Serie A.
The Bahian side, known as Tricolor, led the scoreline on three occasions, but the fighting spirit of the Santa Catarina team, fueled by an inspired performance from Giovanni Augusto, prevented a home defeat.
The match was marked by frequent changes in the score, demonstrating the grit of both teams. While Chapecoense bravely fights to escape the relegation zone, Bahia seeks to consolidate its position among the top contenders.

An Intense First Half
The first half at Arena Condá was a true test for the fans’ hearts. Bahia dictated the pace with ball possession, looking to create spaces in Chapecoense‘s defense, which relied on quick counter-attacks.
In the 11th minute, a penalty was awarded to the visitors. Alejo Veliz took the kick firmly, and despite Anderson getting a touch, the ball found the back of the net, opening the scoring.
However, Chapecoense didn’t take long to react. In the 18th minute, after an individual play by Giovanni Augusto, the forward received a cross, controlled it masterfully, and struck a spectacular volley, leveling the match and igniting the crowd.
The game continued at a fast pace, with chances for both sides. It was an own goal that put Bahia ahead once more. In the 41st minute, from a low cross, defender Kauan Faria tried to clear the danger but ended up sending the ball into his own net, setting the halftime score at 2-1 for Bahia.
Second Half: Combebacks and a Thrilling Draw
Chapecoense returned for the second half with a different approach, making three substitutions. The change quickly took effect.
In the 2nd minute, Giovanni Augusto, the man of the match, delivered a precise cross to Marcinho, who controlled it and finished with no chance for goalkeeper Ronaldo, leveling the score once again: 2-2.
The home team pressed for the lead and even found the back of the net with Franco Rossi, but the play was disallowed for offside.
In the 19th minute, Bahia regained the lead with a spectacular goal from Acevedo. The midfielder struck a precise shot into the top corner, putting the Tricolor back in front.
However, Bahia’s joy was short-lived. About seven minutes later, in the 27th minute, Giovanni Augusto, tireless as ever, delivered another perfect cross to Túlio Eduardo, and the forward headed it into the net, sealing the final score at 3-3.
Both teams continued fighting until the final whistle in search of a winning goal, but the parity on the scoreboard remained.
Impact and Next Steps in the Brazilian Serie A
The draw in Chapecó carries different meanings for the teams. For Chapecoense, who sit at the bottom of the table with 11 points, the result is a valuable point gained in the difficult fight against relegation.
Meanwhile, Bahia, with 36 points, provisionally surpasses Cruzeiro and takes fifth position, demonstrating its strength in the competition.
Both teams will have a week to prepare for the next round, which takes place on Sunday, the 23rd.
Bahia will face a regional classic against Vitória at Barradão at 4 PM ET. Shortly after, at 6:30 PM ET, Chapecoense will host São Paulo at Arena Condá in another crucial challenge.
