Wednesday night (16) at Arena MRV was full of intense emotions for fans, featuring a fierce clash between Atlético-MG and Santos in the Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals. The match, which ended 4-2 in regular time, had a special flavor for Flamengo supporters, as two players with significant stints at Gávea took center stage.
While midfielder Renier led the Mineiro side’s attack with two goals, Gabigol was responsible for scoring for Peixe (Santos). Despite the high-scoring game, the spot in the semifinals had to be decided from the penalty spot, where the home team prevailed 3-1, eliminating the Paulista club after an epic comeback in the aggregate score.
