Premier League club Aston Villa has sent an official offer of 9 million euros for right-back Emerson Royal; Flamengo‘s board is evaluating whether to accept the player’s departure.
Flamengo has an important decision to make for the remainder of the season. Aston Villa, a traditional English football club, has formalized its interest in signing right-back Emerson Royal, offering 9 million euros — approximately R$ 53.29 million at the current exchange rate — for the player. The proposal is being carefully analyzed by the club’s football department.
Impasse over Royal’s departure
Although the offer arrived recently, there is no immediate consensus within the Ninho do Urubu (Flamengo’s training ground). Behind the scenes, Emerson Royal is experiencing a period of increased value under coach Leonardo Jardim. After a period of instability where he faced criticism from the fans, the player has regained his form and become a trusted member of the starting lineup.
“The club understands that the full-back is in a phase of growth, making the decision about a potential sale a cautious process to avoid unbalancing the squad,” indicate sources close to the board.
Flamengo’s financial dilemma
Flamengo‘s leadership is also considering the financial impact of the negotiation. In a market where the club seeks to balance its books to maintain its high investment power, player sales are a constant avenue. However, the departure of an undisputed starter at right-back would require the team to seek an immediate replacement in the market, which could neutralize the financial gain from the operation.
Since arriving in Rio de Janeiro from Milan in a R$ 78.8 million transaction, Emerson Royal has played 40 games, scoring one goal and providing five assists. With a contract valid until 2028, the player is seen as a valuable asset, and Flamengo is expected to decide his future in the coming days.
