The race for the 2026 Libertadores title is entering its decisive phase. With seven teams already secured in the quarterfinals, CONMEBOL has unveiled the matchups set to shake up the South American continent. The final spot in the quarterfinal bracket is still up for grabs. The matchup between Tolima and Independiente del Valle, initially postponed, will take place on August 25. In the first leg, the Ecuadorian side held the advantage, winning 1-0, and now seeks to seal their qualification. A notable mention is the early exit of Brazilian side Mirassol, who fell on penalties to LDU.
2026 Libertadores Quarterfinal Matchups
The paths to the semifinals are already mapped out for most of South America’s giants. Fluminense, who overcame Independiente Rivadavia on penalties, will face Platense, who eliminated Coquimbo Unido. The Tricolor Carioca will have the advantage of playing the deciding leg at home at the Maracanã.
Corinthians, following their elimination of Rosario Central, will face Estudiantes. The Argentine side secured their advancement with a solid performance, defeating Universidad Católica 3-0 in Chile.
Meanwhile, Palmeiras, who dispatched Cerro Porteño, faces a challenging opponent: LDU. The Ecuadorian club, which knocked out Mirassol, will look to leverage the altitude in Quito, and Verdão will have the responsibility of deciding the tie away from home.
Flamengo, after defeating Cruzeiro 2-1 at the Maracanã, awaits the conclusion of the Independiente del Valle vs. Tolima series. The winner will earn the right to face the Rubro-Negro in the quarterfinals.
Dates and Expectations for the Final Stretch
The first leg of the 2026 Libertadores quarterfinals is scheduled for September 8, 9, or 10. The return legs will take place the following week, between September 15, 16, or 17.
The grand final of South America’s most coveted tournament is set for November 28 at the historic Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay. High-stakes matches and plenty of emotion are expected in the battle for the trophy.
