Pulgar cautioned again, deepening concerns at Flamengo over high card average
Chilean midfielder Erick Pulgar was once again shown a yellow card during the 1-1 draw between Internacional and Flamengo. This marked the player’s eighth booking in 20 matches played during the 2026 season, bringing his average to 0.4 cards per game.
Pulgar’s recent history wearing the Manto Sagrado features a significant number of cautions. In 2024, for instance, he accumulated 19 yellow cards and one red in 47 appearances, an average of 0.42 per match. Throughout his time with the club, the midfielder has served a total of 11 suspensions due to card accumulation since 2022.
The yellow card against Internacional leaves Pulgar suspended for the next round of the Brazilian Serie A. Flamengo will face Vitória on Sunday, August 9, at 7:30 PM, at the Maracanã.
Pulgar’s intensity on the pitch is well-known, but according to journalist João Vítor Reis, this trait sometimes translates into moments of carelessness and unnecessary actions that border on aggression, which can ultimately hurt the team.
Pulgar’s card history at Flamengo:
- 2026: 7 yellows and 1 red
- 2025: 15 yellows
- 2024: 17 yellows and 1 red
- 2023: 15 yellows
- 2022: 1 yellow and 1 red
