With Pedrinho’s tenure confirmed, Vasco da Gama resumes its transfer market planning and seeks urgent reinforcements to spark a turnaround in the 2026 Brazilian Serie A.
The return of Pedrinho to lead Vasco‘s SAF (soccer corporation) has brought fresh momentum to the club’s football operations. With the legal situation resolved, the board is now racing against time to lift the club out of the uncomfortable 17th position in the Brazilian Serie A. The absolute priority is to strengthen a squad that saw negotiations stall and the hiring of head coach Pedro Emanuel delayed during the period of political instability.
Focus on reinforcements and strategic partnerships
The new head coach, Pedro Emanuel, has already had his first contact with the squad at the Moacyr Barbosa training center. Under the supervision of Admar Lopes and Felipe, the club has retrieved the scouting reports previously compiled to address fundamental needs. The goal is clear: sign a creative midfielder, a winger, a center-back, and a new striker.
The primary target for the creative role is Colombian player Nelson Deossa. Even with Pedrinho‘s brief removal, the club had aligned on a verbal agreement with Real Betis, but the lack of financial guarantees prevented the deal from crossing the finish line. Now, management is looking to resume talks, banking on the player’s desire to join fellow compatriots already on the Gigante da Colina roster.
Market challenges and financial expectations
The transfer window requires caution. The attacking unit, which has failed to find the expected balance following the arrivals of Spinelli and Brenner, combined with Marino Hinestroza‘s underperformance, has made the search for a winger a vital necessity. The club also continues to struggle with constant defensive lapses, which increases the urgency for a reliable center-back.
The major hurdle remains the budget. Pedrinho admitted that the delay in finalizing the sale of the SAF to Marcos Lamacchia prevents more aggressive spending at this moment. “If we had already accelerated all processes, we would have had the possibility of a capital injection in the middle of the year,” stated the president, criticizing the sporting impact caused by the legal impasse.
With the future of the SAF still open, the immediate focus is on the pitch. Vasco is preparing for a decisive clash against Vitória in Salvador next Thursday. It will be Pedro Emanuel‘s first real test following the 2026 World Cup break, in a direct confrontation that could mark a turning point for the team in the standings.
