Flamengo is ramping up its preparations on European soil with a marathon of three international friendlies at Estádio Algarve, aiming to strengthen the squad for the remainder of the season.
In pursuit of excellence for the challenges of the second half of the year, Flamengo has set up its headquarters in Portugal. The squad, which arrived in the country on June 28, is undergoing a rigorous preseason training schedule in the Algarve region, focusing on physical adjustments, tactics, and gaining match fitness under the guidance of head coach Leonardo Jardim.
The club’s logistics plan includes two strategic training bases: the group began work in Lagos, where they will remain until July 5, before finishing their training camp in Estoi ahead of their scheduled return to Brazil on July 12.
High-level tests on Portuguese soil
The highlight of this trip is the series of three international friendlies that will serve as a gauge for the team. With a focus on giving minutes to the entire roster and testing tactical variations, the team will face top-tier opponents at Estádio Algarve.
The first major challenge will be against Argentina’s River Plate on July 3 at 3:30 PM (Brasilia Time). Following that, Flamengo will face Swiss side Lausanne-Sport on July 8 at 4:30 PM. To conclude the friendly cycle, the match against traditional Portuguese club Benfica is set for July 11, also at 3:30 PM.
Preparation focused on success
The preseason training camp is viewed as a turning point for the remainder of the year. The Rio-based club is utilizing the top-tier infrastructure of European football to elevate the group’s competitive level. With dedication and passion, the goal is clear: to return to Brazil with a more cohesive and tuned-up squad, ready to contend for titles in the second half of the season.
This series of matches represents not just technical preparation, but also a valuable opportunity to solidify the work of Leonardo Jardim, who is looking to implement his style of play while the club stays focused on its primary objectives for the year.
