After a turbulent start and fan pressure, forward Samuel Lino is regaining prominence at Flamengo, plans to stay until 2030, and celebrates a strong run of form with goals and assists.
Forward Samuel Lino opened up about the intense scrutiny he faced in his first few months wearing the Flamengo jersey. In a recent interview with ESPN, the player acknowledged that his initial performance fell short of expectations but stressed that soccer requires patience amidst high demands. With a career on the rise in the 2026 season, the athlete has achieved significant milestones and aims for a long-term future at the Rio de Janeiro club, backed by his renewed confidence and the security of his long-term contract.
The winger’s career transformation at Mais Querido is strongly linked to the arrival of coach Leonardo Jardim. Under the coach’s guidance, the player’s performance has soared, justifying the 31 million euro investment made by Rubro-Negro from Atlético de Madrid. In 77 matches for the Rio club, the player already has 16 goals and 16 assists, with an outstanding 2026 season where he found the net 14 times and set up teammates on 13 occasions, establishing himself as a key offensive piece.
Tactical Turnaround and Fan Support
The turning point in the forward’s tenure in Rio de Janeiro involved tactical adjustments made by the coaching staff and a resurgence of his on-field confidence. For the athlete, pressure is part of the routine at a giant club, but the initial phase shouldn’t negate his potential in the medium and long term.
Leonardo Jardim stated:
It was a short period when I wasn’t performing well, but the fans lack patience
Arguing about the necessary patience in high-performance soccer, the player reinforced his commitment to the institution’s sporting project.
Leonardo Jardim stated:
I have a contract until 2030. Out of all these years, I had four months below what was expected of me; I have many years ahead
Consolidation in the Brazilian National Team and Upcoming Challenges
The great form shown at Flamengo has also echoed in the Brazil national team. Recently, during a friendly match for the World Cup Qualifiers against India, played at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, the forward scored his first goals for the Seleção. Playing for only 45 minutes, the athlete scored twice, in addition to demonstrating high passing accuracy, proving that his scoring form extends beyond national football borders.
With important titles already in his resume, such as the Copa Libertadores and the Brazilian Serie A in 2024, in addition to the Carioca Championship in 2026, Samuel Lino shows complete alignment with the club’s future objectives. Looking ahead, Flamengo is preparing to face Estudiantes this Tuesday, October 15, at 9:30 PM. The forward arrives for the crucial match at his physical and technical peak, ready to maintain his scoring rhythm and justify every cent of the Rubro-Negro investment.
