Atlético-MG player Reinier warned after insulting fan at Independência.
Midfielder Reinier, formerly of Flamengo, has been sanctioned by Atlético-MG after a controversy during the draw against Juventude, in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 16. The incident occurred at the end of the match, at Arena MRV, when the player hurled insults at a fan in the stands.
Sanction and Apology
In an official statement released this Sunday (02), Atlético-MG announced that Reinier received a formal warning. The club emphasized that internal measures are being taken to address the player’s conduct. Subsequently, Reinier took to his social media to comment on the incident, admitting his mistake and apologizing to the fans:
“Yesterday (Saturday), after the game, we went to do some work on the field. Because of the result, in the heat of the moment, I ended up insulting a fan; I overreacted. Regardless of what I heard, I am completely wrong. The ‘Massa Atleticana’ (Atlético-MG fans) supported the team, they are within their rights, and for that, I want to apologize to everyone.”

The clash between Atlético-MG and Juventude, played at Arena MRV, ended in a scoreless draw, postponing the decision for a spot in the quarterfinals until the second leg. Reinier, who rose through Flamengo‘s ranks in 2019 and was part of the historic team that won the Libertadores and the Brazilian Serie A under Jorge Jesus, was transferred to Real Madrid in 2020. After several loan spells in Europe, the midfielder permanently joined Atlético-MG in 2025.
