Flamengo reaffirms the value of its emerging talents and rejects Porto‘s offer for fullback Daniel Sales, while maintaining full focus on the arrival of Argentinian Thiago Almada.

The Brazilian football transfer window continues at a frantic pace, and Flamengo remains one of the market’s main protagonists. Amidst proposals arriving from European football and the desire for high-profile signings to elevate the squad’s level, the red-and-black management adopts a firm and strategic stance, protecting its assets and seeking reinforcements that bring immediate technical returns.

The most recent development involves the young right-back Daniel Sales, who has attracted the interest of the traditional Portuguese club Porto. At a time when the academy is a fundamental piece for the club’s financial and competitive health, Mais Querido (The Most Beloved) does not let go of its talents, rejecting advances that do not align with the player’s market projection.

Porto and the Bid for Daniel Sales

Porto formally signaled its interest by offering €5 million (approximately R$30 million at the current exchange rate) for 50% of the economic rights of Daniel Sales, who is 20 years old. The Portuguese club’s idea was to initially integrate the prospect into their B team.

However, the management of Ninho do Urubu (Vulture’s Nest, Flamengo’s training ground) was emphatic in its rejection. The club understands that the amount falls short of the player’s potential, whose release clause is an impressive R$300 million. Flamengo prioritizes retaining a larger share of the player’s rights for future profits and sporting development in Brazil.

“The management does not intend to part with talents prematurely for amounts that do not reflect market reality and the strategic importance of the academy for the future of the professional squad.”

History of Interest and Flamengo’s Firmness

This is not the first time Daniel Sales has attracted attention from abroad. Recently, Goztepe, from Turkey, attempted a 12-month loan with a purchase option, a proposal that was also promptly discarded. With these decisions, the Rio de Janeiro club demonstrates that its squad management policy has changed: the focus now is on retaining young talents for long-term sporting success.

The Main Target: Thiago Almada

While shielding its academy, Flamengo keeps its eyes open to the international market. The name dominating behind-the-scenes discussions is that of attacking midfielder Thiago Almada, currently with Atlético de Madrid. The 25-year-old Argentinian is considered by the management as the ideal reinforcement to bring the necessary “national team caliber” to the midfield, consolidating the strategy of seeking players who arrive with the status of absolute starters for the remainder of the season.
