Petition Against Argentina in 2030 World Cup Reaches Over 23 Million Signatures, Shaking the Football World. Understand the Case and Next Steps.

An online uprising in repudiation of Argentina‘s participation in the 2030 World Cup has transcended virtual borders, surpassing the impressive mark of 23 million signatures. The wave of indignation gained momentum following the controversial semifinal against England, where the display of a banner claiming sovereignty over the Falkland Islands by Argentine players ignited political debate in the midst of a sporting competition.

The peak of the controversy, however, lies in the allegations of referee favoritism during the tournament. The campaign, dubbed “Out Argentina,” maintains that the team led by Lionel Messi was benefited on several occasions, compromising the fairness and credibility of the competition. The petition, which concluded its collection with 23,316,108 adhesions – one of the largest in history – has already caught the attention of FIFA.

Investigation Underway and Possible Sanctions

The highest football governing body confirmed, according to information from CNN, that it will analyze the content of the petition and will also open investigations into the incidents that occurred after the final against Spain. The widespread commotion involved Argentine players such as Nahuel Molina, Leandro Paredes, and Thiago Almada, in addition to assistant coach Roberto Ayala.

Images circulating on social media captured Molina in a physical altercation with Spanish midfielder Rodri, while Paredes engaged in heated discussions with defender Eric Garcia. If the conduct is deemed unsportsmanlike or detrimental to the image of football, those involved could face consequences based on FIFA‘s Disciplinary Code.

A Global Movement and Its Impact

The “Out Argentina” movement not only gathered a colossal number of signatures but also received support from citizens of 170 countries in less than a week. Although the significant adhesion did not surpass the Guinness World Record, held by the “Jubilee 2000” campaign with over 24 million signatures, the case exposes a latent discontent in the sporting scene. The expectation now turns to FIFA‘s official stance and the consequences this historic petition could generate for Argentina’s future participation in World Cups.
