Following a convincing derby victory, Flamengo’s squad resumes training this Monday (31) with full focus on the postponed match against Mirassol in the Brazilian Championship.
Flamengo will have no time to celebrate their 3-0 triumph over Botafogo, secured last Sunday (30) in the 25th round of the Brasileirão. Aiming to maintain their strong form in the competition, the Rubro-Negro squad reported back this Monday morning (31) at the Ninho do Urubu Training Center.
Under head coach Leonardo Jardim, the athletes are beginning specific preparations for the clash against Mirassol. The match, valid for the fourth round of the championship, will be held next Wednesday (02), at 7:30 PM Brasília time, at Maracanã stadium.
Rubro-Negro Dominance in the Derby
The victory over Alvinegro was marked by a consistent performance from Mais Querido. The scoring was opened early at 12 minutes by Samuel Lino, following a precise pass from Jorginho. Flamengo’s dominance continued, and the forward extended the lead in the 40th minute of the second half, with an assist from Jorge Carrascal.
To seal the win, Carrascal himself found the net in the 43rd minute, after a collective play involving Jorginho and Everton Cebolinha. The 3-0 result confirmed the team’s superiority at a decisive moment of the season.
Battle for the Brazilian Serie A Title
With the three points earned, Flamengo reached 48 points, solidifying their position in second place in the Brazilian Championship. Currently, the Rubro-Negro has narrowed the gap to Palmeiras, the table leader with 52 points, who drew with Mirassol in the previous round.
The next fixture, therefore, becomes vital for the team’s title aspirations. The coaching staff expects to maintain the intensity shown in the derby to overcome Mirassol and continue their pursuit of the top spot.
