Bruno Guimarães: Uncertain Future at Newcastle Stirs European Transfer Market

The stay of Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guimarães at Newcastle United has become the focal point of the European transfer market. Amid speculation linking him to Arsenal, head coach Eddie Howe admitted in an interview that he cannot guarantee the player will remain at the club for next season.

Howe’s statement came after a friendly match against Gateshead, where the team drew 1-1. When questioned about Bruno Guimarães’ future, the coach confirmed that he has been holding frequent talks with the player but preferred not to detail the subjects discussed. “We had very good conversations before the World Cup, during the World Cup, and after it. Obviously, what we discussed needs to remain confidential, but he is a great player and a great person,” he commented.

Eddie Howe Comments on Bruno Guimarães’ Future

When pressed about the possibility of Bruno Guimarães remaining at Newcastle, Howe was emphatic, stating that he doesn’t make predictions and that the final decision will depend on discussions led by the board. “I don’t know what will happen with Bruno’s future. That’s for other people to speculate about, and it involves conversations I’m not a part of,” the coach declared.

The Brazilian midfielder figures as one of Arsenal’s main targets for the current transfer window. The London club is reportedly willing to intensify its pursuit of the player; however, the fee demanded by Newcastle appears to be a considerable obstacle to finalizing the deal.

Newcastle Aims to Keep Its Strong Core

Bruno Guimarães’ potential departure would represent another significant loss for Newcastle in this transfer window. The club has already seen important players leave the squad, such as Sandro Tonali, who transferred to Tottenham, and Anthony Gordon, now at Barcelona.

Given this scenario, Eddie Howe emphasized that the board’s priority is maintaining the team’s core. “We don’t want to lose our best players. That’s obvious. Losing these big names is painful and makes our job harder. It’s been another challenging window, but we are doing our best for the club, thinking both short-term and long-term, to build the strongest possible squad,” he concluded.
