Monaco denies rumors and cools speculation about Flamengo players, prioritizing a “big name” and younger athletes for its squad.

The wave of speculation linking several Flamengo stars to Monaco, from France, seems to have come to an end. Since Filipe Luís joined the French club, names like Jorginho, Léo Pereira, Evertton Araújo, Jorge Carrascal, and Erick Pulgar have become topics in European news outlets. However, Monaco‘s football director, Thiago Scuro, acted quickly to dispel the rumors, directly communicating to José Boto and Leonardo Jardim that the interest in the red-and-black athletes is unfounded.

This move by the French club clarifies a scenario that had been gaining traction in the media but, in reality, did not align with the Monegasque’s transfer strategy. Monaco‘s decision not to proceed with negotiations for Flamengo players at this time reorients the transfer market focus and fan expectations.

Monaco’s Strategy: Youth and a “Big Name”

Monaco‘s management has a well-defined transfer policy. Currently, the club has only one spot for a non-European Union player and plans to fill it with a “big name”, who will add immediate value and visibility to the squad.

Furthermore, the preference for players under 30 excludes most of the Flamengo athletes who were targets of speculation, reinforcing the club’s line of renewal and rejuvenation of its squad.

The Erick Pulgar Case: Rumors of Renewal, Not Transfer

Erick Pulgar‘s name was one of the most circulated, with the Chilean press indicating supposed interest, even with Filipe Luís‘s influence. However, Flamengo itself interprets these rumors of interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and the United States as a strategy to pressure the red-and-black board for a contract renewal.

Despite his relatively low release clause, set at 4 million euros, there has been no concrete indication of investment from interested parties, confirming that the information about his departure was mere speculation.

European Profile: Only One Standout Among Those Mentioned

Journalist Pedro Paulo Catonho, from “Coluna do Fla“, analyzed the situation and opined that, among the Flamengo names floated in the media, only the young Evertton Araújo would fit the profile for a European club like Monaco.

This assessment reinforces the French club’s decision not to move forward with negotiations with the Rubro-Negro, staying true to its market strategy.

With director Thiago Scuro‘s clear stance, Monaco demonstrates full focus on its own market strategy, prioritizing the arrival of an impactful reinforcement and younger athletes. For Flamengo, the dissipation of these rumors allows the board to concentrate on internal planning and upcoming transfer windows, without the pressure of unfounded speculation involving its key players. The red-and-black fans can thus breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that their stars, at least for now, remain at the Ninho do Urubu.
