Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has taken another significant step in his European soccer investments. The star has reached a preliminary agreement to acquire Eldense, a club currently competing in the Spanish second division. Should the transaction be finalized, Messi will become the majority shareholder of the team, marking his entry into managing his second club in Spain.
New Chapter in Spanish Soccer
The operation, which still awaits the completion of legal procedures and approval from Spanish authorities, involves the acquisition of shares belonging to the TH Soluciones Group. According to the club, a detailed financial and legal analysis precedes the formalization of the agreement. This move reinforces Messi’s presence in the Spanish soccer scene, where he had previously acquired Cornellà, from the fifth division, in April of this year.
More Active Role at Eldense
Sources indicate that, unlike his investment in Cornellà, Messi intends to have a more active role in the management and administration of Eldense. The club, based in Elda, in the Valencian Community, is going through a delicate moment in the season, occupying 20th place in the second division after four rounds and having recently announced the departure of coach Claudio Barragán.
The potential purchase of Eldense also adds a new layer to the off-the-pitch rivalry between Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, who recently acquired a stake in Almería, another club in the Spanish second division. The two clubs have already faced each other this season, with Almería emerging victorious.
Messi’s venture into managing another Spanish club promises to stir up youth competitions and closely follow the development of soccer in lower divisions.
