The Maracanã, a temple of Brazilian soccer and managed by a partnership between Flamengo and Fluminense, is getting a new look — or rather, a new pitch. Aiming to raise the standard of excellence for its playing surface, the stadium management has implemented a modern supplemental lighting system featuring LED SG lamps, cutting-edge technology developed in the Netherlands.

The new system’s main objective is to accelerate turf recovery after matches, ensuring more uniform growth, especially in areas affected by the stadium’s natural shade. This solution is already in use at prestigious global soccer venues such as Santiago Bernabéu and Camp Nou in Spain. Beyond performance, the new technology stands out for its efficiency, providing a significant reduction in energy consumption and optimizing the heat required for pitch maintenance.
Flamengo’s Return to the Maracanã
The debut of this system coincides with Flamengo‘s return to the stadium. After the World Cup break, the Rubro-Negro will reunite with their fans this Sunday (26) at 7:30 PM (Brasília time) in a decisive match against São Paulo for the 20th round of the Brazilian Championship. A celebratory atmosphere is expected in the stands, with over 50,000 tickets already secured in advance by supporters.
