With Mbeumo’s brilliance, Manchester United secured a 2-1 comeback victory over Atlético Madrid in a preseason warm-up match.
Manchester United confirmed their strong form in preparation for the new European season. This Saturday (Aug 1), the English side defeated Atlético Madrid 2-1 in a match played at Strawberry Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
The result marked the Red Devils’ second consecutive victory on Swedish soil.
Despite the win, the start of the game was dominated by the Spanish side. Just four minutes in, the Colchoneros opened the scoring after a short corner kick from Koke, which led to Ortiz’s cross into the area.
United’s defense faltered, and the ball found its way into the net defended by Heaton.
The English Comeback
The reaction from the English side only gained momentum in the second half. Eight minutes in, the referee awarded a penalty kick after Shea was brought down by Koke inside the box.
Mbeumo stepped up, sent the opposing goalkeeper the wrong way, and leveled the match.
The comeback was completed in the 29th minute, with Mbeumo again playing a starring role. After a brilliant individual play by Fletcher down the flank, the precise cross found the first goalscorer, who didn’t waste the opportunity to put the English side ahead on the scoreboard.
